Season Summary
The funny thing about Brett Favre's tenure in New York was that there was once a point when things were going swimmingly. The Jets dominated the Titans 34-13 in Week 12, which put them to 8-3 and in complete control of their destiny. But they would go on to win just one more game and their season ended with Pennington's revenge in Week 17.

Quarterback
- Brett Favre (11th, 757, -25%)
The Favre trade initially looked like an excellent return on the risk associated with it, but as his interceptions increased and Chad Pennington’s overall effectiveness and health became too impossible to ignore in Miami, it turned out to be a net loss. He finished the season with an 81.0 passer rating and exactly 22 TDs and 22 interceptions.
Running Backs
- Thomas Jones (10th, [484 rushing, 162 receiving], -14%)
Jones bounced back from a very modest first season with the Jets to become a 1,312 yard rusher with 13 touchdowns. He rushed for a very efficient 4.6 yards per carry (up almost a whole yard from 2007) and was exactly what they needed from a Favre-offense running back.
- Leon Washington (63rd, [187 rushing, 247 receiving], 370%)
Washington had an excellent 5.9 yards per carry average in his 76 attempts to go with 47 receptions for another 355 yards. He was also extremely valuable as a returner, earning a Pro Bowl bid.
Wide Receivers
- Laveranues Coles (28th, 569, -34%)
Coles very vocally expressed his displeasure with losing Pennington in favor of Favre and his position was ultimately vindicated in what turned out to be his final season with the Jets. He caught 70 balls for 850 yards and seven touchdowns.
- Jericho Cotchery (30th, 558, 15%)
Like Coles, Cotchery had a 12.1 yards per reception average, catching 71 balls for 858 yards and five touchdowns. Many were expecting a Greg Jennings type of breakout season for Cotchery with Favre being better equipped to deliver the long ball, but it never really materialized.
- Chansi Stuckey (78th, 249, 314%)
Stuckey became a nice addition after missing 2007 due to a broken foot, as the former 7th rounder caught 32 balls for 359 yards and three touchdowns.
Tight End
- Dustin Keller (14th, 363, 154%)
Keller had a very promising rookie season with 48 receptions for 535 yards and three touchdowns. He was one of Favre’s favorite targets in the second half of the season.
- Chris Baker (40th, 129, 5%)
Baker’s production dipped due to the emergence of Keller and some nagging injuris, but he did catch 21 balls for 194 yards in 21 games.
Defensive Summary
Newcomer Kris Jenkins made the Pro Bowl at defensive tackle, as did Darrelle Revis and the Jets were very good against the run, but allowed themselves to be chipped away at against the pass.
Shaun Ellis had eight sacks, while Calvin Pace had seven to go with 62 solo tackles. Eric Barton had 93 sacks, which was the kind of production he had in Oakland, while David Harris also had a good season.
Biggest draft needs
The Jets clearly need a legitimate NFL quarterback and there is clearly a chance they could look there, but the odds are relatively slim that they spend their first round pick at that position unless Mark Sanchez falls to them.
There will be a run of wide receivers in the late teens and their need for a playmaker is glaring.
