Spoiled Rotten
There’s a difference between a favorite and a lock. When up against a team with playoff-level talent, it’s rare that the team with the better record ever appears in the second category.

No one has been able to put up a fight against Patriots quarterback Tom Brady thus far, but Raiders Nnamdi Asomugha is the right man for the job.

How They Got Here

Brady dominated his Sweet Sixteen matchup with Dolphins lineman Jake Long (81% of vote), while Asomugha had Denver's Ryan Clady covered (79% of the vote) in their tilt.

Why Brady Is A Franchise Player

There is absolutely no denying Brady's ability. He's coming off major reconstructive knee surgery, but few doubt that he'll come back with a vengeance in 2009. He attempted just 11 passes last season due to the injury he suffered in Week One against the Chiefs, but tossed a record 50 touchdowns in the season prior when the Patriots fell one win shy of a perfect year.

Brady is never listed any lower than second on the list of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but is sometimes put on top (ahead of the infamous Peyton Manning). He's still in his prime at 32, and has less wear on his tires than Manning when you consider the season he missed (2008) and his rookie year (2000) when he threw just three passes.

New England doesn't have much behind him, which leads many to believe that he's close to 100%. Ice water runs through his veins, and he is rather selfless when it comes to winning as well.

Why Asomugha Is A Franchise Player

Asomugha is the best cornerback in the game today, but his statistics aren't eye-opening because so few quarterbacks dare to test him. He intercepted eight passes and recorded 19 pass deflections in 2006, but has just two picks since due to a lack of chances.

His abilities aren't limited to defending the pass either. He's strong in run support, allowing him to maintain strong tackle totals despite the small amount of balls he sees thrown to his side of the field.

He has been featured in a few national stories, on both television and in print, raising his popularity this summer. Oakland could use a strong leader, especially one that has a strong head on his shoulders, and Asomugha is perfect for the role.
