Bengals.com - 03/21 - 0:44 AM EST Dhani Jones of the Bengals will attempt to climb Mount Everest.
“It’s four miles up. We’re going to go about 23,000 feet, a mile short of the top,” Jones said Friday. “If you’re going to jump off a bridge, you don’t want to start out jumping off the highest bridge. I’ll get a taste and I’ll be back.”
He knows there’s some danger involved, but he’s had experience climbing the mountain ranges in the Northeast United States and he’s been on many mountain as an avid snowboarder.
“I’m excited and aware. That’s what you have to be instead of scared about the dangers,” Jones said. “The altitude adjustment is going to be a challenge, but you’ll be breathing, taking it all in, and looking down at where you come from. No cell phone for three weeks, it will be great. I’ll miss some things, but you guys will miss what I’m doing.” [READ]

Plain Dealer - 03/20 - 11:11 PM EST The Arizona Cardinals were among the teams interested in trading for former Browns linebacker Kamerion Wimbley before they dealt him to Oakland. The big holdup with them, like other teams, was Wimbley's contract. Wimbley has voided the final year of his deal through performance incentives.
Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt did not want to give up a high draft pick for Wimbley without a longer-term deal in place.
The Cardinals eventually signed Joey Porter. [READ]

NFL.com - 03/20 - 11:09 PM EST Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin expressed anxiety over the sexual-assault allegation leveled at quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, telling NFL Network's Jennifer Allen on Saturday, "I'm highly concerned for our franchise and for Ben personally."
Tomlin didn't want to say too much about the situation, acknowledging that police in Milledgeville, Ga., are still investigating a 20-year-old female college student's accusation against Roethlisberger.
"My concerns are many, but I think at this time it's kind of appropriate to watch these things and let these things run their course," Tomlin said after arriving in Orlando, Fla., for the NFL Annual Meeting, which starts Monday. "I think it would be inappropriate for me to have strong feelings one way or another with the investigation being ongoing and so forth. Like everyone else, you watch these things unfold." [READ]

Miami Herald - 03/20 - 11:54 AM EST Chad Henne hopes the Dolphins can improve at the wide receiver position.
"There's definitely guys out there, like you said," Henne said. "There's T.O. [Terrell Owens]. There's Brandon Marshall. There's guys in the draft. Where we're at, we have a bunch of young guys who are definitely learning and going to be explosive in the next coming year.
"But you need kind of a veteran guy that's really going to take hold of our young guys and teach them the right ways." [READ]

NFL.com - 03/19 - 7:21 PM EST Linebacker Joey Porter agreed to a three-year contract Friday with the Cardinals after making the Washington Redskins his second visit.
“It is exciting on many levels,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “Two areas that come to mind are his productivity on the field, (because) getting 26½ sacks over the last two years is pretty impressive, especially considering last year with not even playing a full season. Also the mentality he brings, it’s something we have made great progress with as a team. Having another veteran player, who has had great success in this league, to contribute to that will only help us in an area defensively where we want to improve.”
Porter had nine sacks last season with Miami before the Dolphins cut him. He is expected to fill the starting spot held by departing free agent Chike Okeafor and gives the Cards a needed pass-rush threat. [READ]

ESPN - 03/19 - 4:42 PM EST The United Football League has been actively attempting to convince the NFL to invest in their league in hopes of gaining a valuable senior partner, as well as other investors, according to sources.
However, the latest proposal, which would give the NFL a 30 percent stake in the year-old UFL, is not on the agenda for discussion during the NFL owners' meetings.
Such a potential move was interpreted by one source as the NFL acquiring another pawn in the chess match between the owners and the NFL Players Association when the current labor agreement expires after the 2010 season.
An owners source refuted that notion, saying any financial investment in the UFL would be counter-productive to the NFL's collective-bargaining position that the league has significant economic challenges.
The UFL has proposed that in addition to the 30 percent investment, of which the specific dollar amount was not revealed by sources, the NFL will have at least one seat on the UFL's board and a role in the football operations. Sources disagree on whether a deal is likely. [READ]

Washington Post - 03/19 - 4:40 PM EST Members of the Redskins continued to marvel at the changes in the organization under Coach Mike Shanahan.
"It's just totally different than it used to be," quarterback Jason Campbell said. "Yeah, they've changed a lot of stuff around in the weight room, painted and moved some other stuff, but that's not what I'm talking about. It's really the feeling you get now just being [in the building].
"You just see how professional it is and guys are doing things the right way. Usually in the past, guys wouldn't be focused like this right now. A lot of guys who showed up [for the voluntary offseason conditioning program] wouldn't be here in the past. And even in the weight room, a lot of guys just used to do their own thing. But it's all structured now. There's a plan for everything we're doing." [READ]
